BACON TO UNDERGO SURGERY

Tuesday September 11, 2018
BIRMINGHAM skipper Tom Bacon is set to undergo an operation today (Tuesday) after suffering a burst fracture of his L2 vertebrae in a horrific crash at Mildenhall on Saturday.

It means the Edwards Plumbing Brummies' No.1 has seen his season brought to a premature end after a fine campaign both in the National League as well as in the Championship with Peterborough.

Said Bacon: "I've been in a lot of pain but I saw the specialist on Monday who has allowed me to sit up in the bed and get a bit more comfy.

"The plan is to operate today to secure the fracture.

"My main aim now is obviously to get fit and get everything ready for next season.

"I did a lot of damage to all my equipment as well as my body; my bike is a write off, as are my kevlars, and all my protective clothing which was all cut off.

"There will be a lot of time and expense in getting myself and racing equipment back to normal but it is very reassuring getting all the nice messages from supporters.

"I would also like to put on record my thanks once again to the brilliant medical staff at Mildenhall Speedway."

Birmingham are back in action at Perry Barr on Wednesday (September 12, 7.30) when they host Peterborough in a special Inter-League Challenge. Full team news will be issued later on Tuesday.
