BRUMMIES SIGN GREENWOOD

Sunday July 22, 2018
BIRMINGHAM have snapped up Dan Greenwood to solve their current injury crisis - and he’ll make his debut in Monday’s mid-season challenge at former club Kent (6.30).

The 25-year-old comes in for Danyon Hume who is facing around another month on the sidelines with a dislocated shoulder.

Edwards Plumbing Brummies team boss Laurence Rogers says the club had no choice but to bring a new rider in, especially with Hume set to drop to fourth in their averages from August 1.

“Dan is really hungry for this and it’s a good move for both parties,” said Rogers.

“He’s been a victim of the famous speedway numbers game and he’s too good a rider not to have a team place anywhere.

“It will be far from easy for Dan coming in part way through the season, but the Challenge at Kent is going to be the perfect test for him to get some competitive laps under his belt ahead of our home league meeting with Plymouth on Wednesday.

“Dan has still got a lot in his locker and hopefully he can find just some of that during his time at Birmingham because people should remember, it’s only three years since I worked with him at Coventry where he was statistically one of the best riders in the National League.

“With Danyon out for the foreseeable future, Dan will come in and firm us up in the middle.

“From August 1, Danyon drops down in the averages again and the rider replacement becomes even less ideal for us.

“So to be able to bring in someone with Dan’s experience at this level is a much better option, and we just need the fans to keep getting behind the team as I’m sure they will.

“We might not have had much luck with injuries lately, but we’re still determined to make this a season to remember.

“Obviously Monday’s meeting is one put back from earlier in the season which we’d already agreed to, and it will be good for a few of the boys to try a few things with some big meetings coming up.”

Reserve Sheldon Davies is unavailable for the trip so former Kent man Adam Sheppard guests.
