BUXTON v BRUMMIES, PREVIEW

Saturday July 07, 2018
DEPLETED Birmingham head to Buxton on Sunday needing at least a draw to keep their National Trophy hopes alive (3pm).

The Edwards Plumbing Brummies are without four of their regular riders with Danyon Hume ruled out through injury while James Shanes and Arran Butcher are absent due to grasstrack commitments.

Mildenhall’s Danny Ayres stands in at No.5 with rider replacement operating at No.3 for Hume.

William O’Keefe deputises at No.6 while team boss Laurence Rogers is hoping to finalise his other guest reserve by close of play on Saturday.

Birmingham are currently five points behind local rivals Cradley, and the Northern Group will go down to a derby day decider at Perry Barr on August 1 as long as Brummies avoid defeat in Derbyshire.

Said Rogers: “We may be without some key riders but that doesn’t change our approach at all.

“As is the case with every meeting, we want to take all four points at Buxton to take a little bit of pressure off the final home meeting against Cradley.

“We’re delighted to have Danny guesting for us again; he is in good form right now and did a marvellous job for us at the Isle of Wight the other Thursday.

“We’ll need him to do a similar job again because we want to make life easier for ourselves.”

BUXTON: Ben Wilson, Lewis Whitmore, Connor Coles R/R, Tom Woolley, James Cockle, Kieran Douglas, Corban Pavitt, Sam Woolley (No.8).

BIRMINGHAM: Tom Bacon, Callum Walker, Danyon Hume R/R, Leon Flint, Danny Ayres, William O’Keefe, TBC.
