MITCHELL’S THE MAN

Sunday December 24, 2017
BIRMINGHAM have completed a powerhouse top-end trio by snapping up exciting talent Mitchell Davey.

The 27-year-old joins Tom Bacon and Danyon Hume in the Brummies top three, with hot prospect Leon Flint also already confirmed at reserve.

Davey is already a popular figure at Perry Barr after an important contribution in the club's play-off final success over Eastbourne in 2016.

He also bagged a 15-point maximum for Stoke on his return to the second city this year and racked up a whole host of double figure scores with the Potters.

Birmingham co-promoter David Mason reckons the signing is a real coup for the Brummies and says his experience could be invaluable to the rest of the side.

"Mitchell is going to bring so much to our team both on and off the track and this is a key signing in my eyes," Mason said.

"He's a real classy performer and for me he is one of the standout riders in the National League.

"He's got a real liking for the Perry Barr track and with a full season under his belt there, I just think he's going to get better and better as the year goes on.

"I really do think that there's even more to come from Mitchell and his skills and talent on a bike are unquestionable.

"I think that's been shown by the fact that Swindon have signed him in the Premiership and it's going to be an exciting year for Mitch.

"Swindon have been given special allowance to race the majority of their Premiership home meetings on a Thursday and there may just be the odd occasion where he's required to ride for them on a Wednesday.

"But that's where we will have to plan our fixtures as carefully as we possibly can because it goes without saying we want him available to us as often as is possible.

"The things he'll learn and that he'll add to his own knowledge will make his experience invaluable to everyone else at Birmingham next season.

"He'll be a reliable, regular big hitting heat-leader and the stability he will bring to our side will be of huge importance.

"These are exciting times for Birmingham Speedway and I really hope this is a major signing that will help our supporters get in the mood for March even quicker!"
