TEAM BUILDING LATEST

Friday December 22, 2017
BIRMINGHAM are edging closer to their next signing – but it won’t be two of their teenage aces from 2017.

Taylor Hampshire’s college commitments have seen him join Kent while Jack Parkinson-Blackburn does not feature in the final team plans of new owners David and Peter Mason.

David Mason has told how the duo did appear in a number of team permutations but has now expanded more on why the duo will not be back at Perry Barr.

“With Taylor it’s quite simple,” Mason said. “The way his college course is now scheduled, it would be very demanding and nigh on impossible for him to commute to Birmingham from his base near Mildenhall mid-week.

“He did feature in a few of our plans but he has now joined Kent and we wish him the best.

“I know the decision to leave Jack out will disappoint the majority of supporters but it’s something we thought long and hard about.

“Jack is so familiar with Birmingham now and he’s come a hell of a long way. But we felt he would personally benefit by going somewhere new for a season.

“2018 is going to be a big year all round for Jack both on and off the track and we really hope it all works out well for him.

“But leaving Jack out of this year’s team certainly doesn’t mean we’re lacking ambition.

“We’ve already got two returning favourites in Danyon Hume and Tom Bacon who we feel have got plenty to offer on the back of their previous experiences and in Leon Flint we’ve got one of the brightest prospects coming through the youth system.

“We would love to announce our next signing before Christmas if it is possible and while supporters may be a bit frustrated by our decision to leave Jack out, hopefully our fourth signing will impress the supporters.

“I’d like to think it will assure them even more that we are going for the title again this year and that we’re building a group of riders who will work well together both on and off the track and who will prove to be popular with the Perry Barr faithful.

“I need to bring my own ideas to the club and to the team and the Birmingham fans are great and I’m sure they’ll love the entertainment we’ve got planned for them in 2018.”

The club are set to reveal details of season ticket and general admission prices for the 2018 campaign before the New Year.
