DRURY HONOURED

Thursday November 02, 2017
BIRMINGHAM team manager Graham Drury won the National League Award at the All Party Parliamentary Group End of Season Presentation on Wednesday.

The annual function took place at the Houses of Parliament in Westminster where British Speedway’s success stories from the season were celebrated.

2017 was Drury’s final season in the sport and he received the award for his dedication and commitment to the club in all three leagues since 2007 and for his willingness to support the new promotion of David and Peter Mason.

It was a special moment for Drury who on the same day was out celebrating his first official day of retirement with wife Denise.

“It was totally unexpected but it is certainly an honour,” Drury said.

“No matter what path you take in life, it’s always nice when your work and the hours you’ve put in to something is recognised in such a way, particularly in a career which has lasted 50 years for me.

“I’m very lucky because I can’t really say I’ve worked a day in my life to an extent. I’ve earned a living from doing things that I love and speedway has obviously been a big part of my life.

“I used to be a rider, I’ve staged plenty of successful ice meetings at Telford and as a team manager and promoter for teams on the shale I’ve got plenty of fond memories too.

“Birmingham Speedway has been a huge chapter of mine and my family’s life too and this award is for everyone associated and connected with the club.”

A reminder that the club’s End of Season Awards Night takes place on Saturday (November 4, 7pm) at the Great Barr ex-Serviceman’s Club. Riders and management will be in attendance and supporters are politely reminded that it is a ticket only event with sales now ended.
