STARKE ADDED TO FAREWELL LINE-UP

Sunday October 08, 2017
PAUL Starke is the latest name to be added to Tony Mole's Farewell meeting which sees Birmingham take on Coventry at Perry Barr this Wednesday (7.30).

The Herefordshire born racer was a popular part of the Brummies' 2014 side which had their season brought to an early end under the Phillips regime.

Team boss Graham Drury said: "Paul was a solid points scorer during his relatively short stint with Birmingham.

"He quickly grew into the team and it didn't take him too long to settle in at Perry Barr.

"Paul actually approached us about riding in the meeting because Tony Mole was one of the first promoters to allow him to have some laps when he was a youngster.

"So this is another example of how much Tony is respected by riders in this league and we're delighted to fit Paul into the field."

Starke joins current Grand Prix competitor Martin Smolinski, Ben Barker, Adam Skornicki and American youngster Broc Nicol in the line-up.

Adam Roynon has been ruled out with a broken collarbone while there is now also doubt over 2015 title winner Adam Ellis.

"We will know for definite about Adam Ellis on Monday," Drury explained.

"He broke his scaphoid in the Premiership play-off semi-finals a couple of weeks ago and battled through the pain barrier to help Swindon win the league.

"But he's been in some severe discomfort over the past couple of days and is going to need it checking out.

"It's a real shame Adam Roynon has had his season cut short as well and we send him our best wishes.

"The final touches are now being put on the meeting and we'll be able to let supporters know more details on Monday."
